I remember back a couple of weeks ago when I was so desperate to start a pair of Selbuvotter mittens. I couldn't wait and abandoned other projects to start these. I planned, chose yarn, swatched, charted, and was finally ready. It was the thrill of a new project, the challenge of a new pattern.
Last night as I wove in the last of the ends, I thought that I never want to see these ever again. It took every once of energy to finish them, but they are done. Done, done, done. Please take them away.
These are Annemor #7 from Terri Shea's Selbuvotter with many, many modifications. I used Bernat Sox yarn and 2.5 mm needles. The original pattern is for gloves so I had to change the tops to work as mittens. I continued to follow the pattern for the palm but for the front I knit a 1x1 lice pattern for 10 rows, then a 1x3 lice pattern for the rest of the front top.
The thumb also needed a different pattern from the original because I wasn't using the finger pattern that matched. So, I just decided on straight lines for the rest of the thumb.
The inside join part of the thumb was really tricky. I am somewhat satisfied with the finished result. It could have been a little neater but it's still pretty cool how it works out to match the rest of the palm. I liked this part.
There are mistakes. I know they're there. Don't tell me if you see them in the pics. By the time I realized a couple of them I had absolutely no desire to rip back and re-do. Denial is a good thing.
They are gone from my house - finally. Gone to a friend who's going through a divorce and having been there, done that, it's nice to know people still care and think of you. She needed something special and I hope she'll enjoy them.
Dear husband loves them and was even seen looking through my yarn for the right brilliant orange and black for me to knit him a pair! Not for a while, I think.
I need to return to my mindlessly, simple Big Mexiko socks for a few nights at least. Big needles, big yarn, no charts.
It's almost 5:30 p.m. and still daylight. I love it!

The mitts turned out gorgeous! I would love a pair like that; your friend is very blessed. I've got quite a bit of Briggs and Little sock yarn kicking around. I may need to come up with something similar.
I'm curious; did you carry across for the moose or did you do it as a colour block?

Thank you! She picked the moose pattern from the book and seemed pleased with the results. I carried the yarn across the back of the moose and wove it in about every 3rd or 4th stitch. Tricky!

Fabulous mitts! Love the colors you used too! I'm sure they are well appreciated!

These are lovely! I love the pattern - know what you mean about the thrill of new yarn and pattern, I'm itching to get back to some fairisle/intarsia.
