My flower gardens have been amazing this year. Maybe it was the heat and humidity, maybe it was just the right amount of rain, maybe it was just time. For whatever reason, everything has just bloomed steadily and put on a gorgeous show this year.
I always have fuschias and begonias in hanging baskets on my front porch. This year the begonias were the best ever.
They are hanging far below the baskets and are so thick and such a stunning red. If you look closely on the veranda in the left corner of this picture, you will spot my warping board - the thing with the round holes in it. This is where I often stand to wind those 40 foot skeins for the self-striping yarns!
Most of the flowers in my gardens are used for dyeing. Marigolds, lady's mantle, lilies, coreopsis, false indigo, hollyhocks, lily of the valley, and black eyed susan's are all great dye plants. But, the begonias are just for enjoying their glorious red!
