Hermione's Scarf - my version of the scarf worn by Hermione in the Half Blood Prince movie - is completed. It's taken months and months. This was a major project. It involved far more work than I ever imagined when I innocently started. But it was worth it.
The chart took days and days, then the swatching until I was sick of swatching, the dyeing of the yarn followed, and the knitting. Row upon row of endless knitting.
The fair isle scarf is knit in the round so all of the ends are hidden inside. Rather than weave in all those ends, I knotted each one twice. After washing they will stick together a bit and hopefully stay put for a very long time.
I grafted the one end with Kitchener stitch and then seamed the cast on end with mattress stitch.
The scarf is 72 stitches wide, knit on 4mm needles which made for a 6 inch wide scarf. 8 1/2 repeats of the pattern resulted in a length of 72 inches.
The chart is available for free - here - and a kit with the chart and our own hand dyed single ply yarn to knit the scarf are also available in the shop - here.
What the pictures can't tell is how soft and cushy and warm the scarf is. I washed it and put it in the dryer until it was almost dry, then hung it over chairs to finish the drying. No real blocking! I never fail to be amazed at how much softer and puffier our yarns become with washing.
Matching mittens are on the needles!
WOW. That is amazing!

That's quite a come hither look on your face in the photo. You appear to be winking - probably trying to trick some of us knitters into trying that months and months of knitting. The scarf is beautiful.

I knew I should have cropped my head off!! I was just horribly squinting. It just takes months when you're as slow a knitter as I am.

'Clearly a labour of love and it shows! This is my first visit - I'll have to stop back again to see more of your knitting!

The scarf is wonderful. That's a lot of planning and a lot of stitches. I can understand why it took so long to complete. Too, we all need simpler knitting at times in the midst of a major project. It is truly beautiful and seems to be a very accurate reproduction.

It's beautiful!! Wow, all those ends, glad you found a good way to not have to weave them in!
